An Intense Experience: An Example Of How The Holy Spirit Moves
I wanted to share with you an intense experience that we had at a recent concert. We had finished with the equipment and product table setup and Steve and I were at the back of the sanctuary. Steve was visiting with the Pastor and I was waiting to offer comment/prayer request cards to those entering for the service.
There was a hall at the back of the sanctuary, on the right side that led to the fellowship and classroom area. A young man showed up in that doorway. He stood there for a moment surveying the room. He had an angry look on his face and his eyes looked wild. There was an instant feeling of spiritual darkness and a sense of urgency in the room. He looked at me and I smiled and nodded to him, saying “Hello.” He looked at the Pastor and said “Are you the Preacher?” The Pastor said “Yes.” The young man said “We need to talk. You got an office?” The Pastor said “Yes I do,” and walked toward him and went with him down the hall.
After about 10 minutes, the young man came into the sanctuary and sat in the rear pew as close to that doorway as possible. He picked up a Bible and began to page through it. I walked over to him and greeted and welcomed him. I offered him a comment card just as I was doing for other people coming to attend the service. He did not smile; he simply nodded to me, took the card and looked back down at the Bible.
He got up after about 5 minutes and came toward the front door, at the rear of the santuary, where I was standing to give cards to those who entered. I asked him if he was leaving, he said “I will be back” and walked out the door. I watched him light a cigarette and go around the side of the church.
The Pastor came back to the sanctuary from the back hall and he was urgently looking around the sanctuary. I assumed that he was looking for the young man and I said “he went outside to smoke and he said he was coming back.” The Pastor said “Good, I hope he does.”
The young man came back in from the side door and entered from the hall and took his seat at the rear of the church again. The service began a few minutes later.
After 2 or 3 songs had been sung the young man got up from his seat and walked up to the front of the church and sat in the very front pew where the Pastor was sitting. He remained there for the duration of the concert and during the time of our alter call, he got on his knees and prayed for a long time with the Pastor.
After the service was over he came and told us that he had given his heart to the Lord and he stated that he really did not want to hurt anyone, but that was his intention when he came in. He stated that he was on the way to rob a liquor store and he saw our big bus in the front of the church and he decided to come into the church instead.
The Pastor later told us that after visiting with the young man in his office for a few minutes, the young man pulled up his shirt and gave the Pastor a 10″ knife that he had strapped to his back in a sheath. He had intended to use it to hurt someone and steal and he had a history of being in prison several times for doing the same.
We thank God for His hand on this young mans life and guiding through the Holy Spirit to this service. We thank God that we had no fear in the midst of this situation and we were able to boldly proclaim His truth. We thank God that he can use these unworthy vessels to reach a lost and dying world.
The U.S. is one of the biggest mission fields there is and time is short, therefore, we will continue to travel where ever God opens the door and boldly proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ, without fear.
Thank you for your continued prayers for this ministry. I am quite sure that there will be more and more of these kinds of experiences as people become more desperate and are in search of hope.
Until the whole world hears,
